5 Awesome Restaurants in Dublin
I thought I would hop back on the Dublin train for a moment. One of my favorite parts of traveling is trying new restaurants and tasting local specialties. On this trip, I had everything from bangers and mash to seafood chowder, and it was all incredibly delicious.
Today, I’m sharing a few of my favorite restaurants in Dublin that really stood out during our visit.
1. The Brazen Head
We stopped by The Brazen Head after it was recommended by one of Justin’s friends. We went at lunchtime, and it was packed. Since there were only two of us, we were able to grab a couple of high table seats.
The Brazen Head is definitely a well-known tourist spot, but it is also Ireland’s oldest pub. It was easy to see that locals hang out here too. Justin ordered the Brazen Head burger, and I had one of their lunch sandwiches. Since we were in Dublin, we also enjoyed some beer and cider, which felt like a must.
2. The Hairy Lemon
The Hairy Lemon was another pub recommended by a friend, and we loved it so much that we came back a second time during the same trip. Like many Dublin pubs, it stays busy from lunchtime until closing, but the atmosphere was lively and welcoming.
The servers were friendly, and the food was great. This is where I had my first-ever bangers and mash, along with my first pint of Guinness on draft. It was the perfect combination, although the walk back to our hotel afterward was very slow. A nap was definitely needed.
3. Matt the Thresher
When time and budget allow, we like to include at least one more upscale restaurant on our trips. Matt the Thresher fit that role perfectly. It is a seafood bar and grill that has won several local awards, and their specials change regularly.
We both ordered seafood dishes and shared a dessert. At a place like this, I decided to be a little more refined and ordered wine instead of Guinness.
4. Brick Alley Cafe
So far, I’ve talked about pubs serving lunch and dinner, but breakfast deserves its own spotlight. We found Brick Alley Cafe in the Temple Bar neighborhood of Dublin, and it quickly became a favorite.
If you need a caffeine boost, this is a great place to stop for a hot drink and a scone. They offer plenty of other food and drink options as well, but my favorite part was sitting by the window and people-watching as the city passed by.
5. La Peniche
You might wonder why we chose a French restaurant in Dublin, but La Peniche is far from ordinary. It is a dinner cruise that takes you down the Grand Canal while you enjoy a three-course meal.
The food was excellent, but the experience itself was what made it memorable. We started by sipping wine on the upper deck. It was chilly, but the restaurant provided warm blankets. After that, we moved inside for dinner. If you find yourself in Dublin, I definitely recommend giving La Peniche a try.
Now you know a few of my favorite restaurants in Dublin. Do you have any favorites to share? Do you make trying new restaurants a big part of your travel plans?
Until next time!
